What is the project about?

The Sport4Prisons project focuses on the development and implementation of an innovative sports method as a tool for the rehabilitation of prisoners. It aims to promote the skills and abilities of prisoners in order to facilitate their reintegration and socialization.

What are the overarching goals of the project?

The project aims to use sports methods to strengthen the key skills of prisoners in order to facilitate their reintegration and socialization after their time in prison. It also aims to promote the further training of prison staff and create an international platform for the exchange of best practices.

Development of a method for identifying and assessing the key competences required for the reintegration of prisoners.
Creation of a sports programme that specifically promotes the social and personal skills of prisoners.
Training of prison officers and coaches so that they can use the new sports and assessment system.
Introduction of the programme in prisons and establishment of an international network to promote the exchange of best practice.

The planned results of the project

New findings and methods: Preparation of two studies analysing the key competences of prisoners and existing methods to promote them.

Innovative assessment and sports methods

Development of a new assessment method and a customised sports method for the rehabilitation of prisoners, including training materials.

Educational and training materials

Creation of a guide and videos to introduce the new sports method as well as training for prison staff.

International networking and policy recommendations

Establishment of a European network of experts and development of recommendations for policy reforms at national and EU level.

Who are the partners and what is the term?

The project began on 1 January 2025 and will run for 36 months. The project consortium consists of members from Germany, Hungary, Portugal and Turkey.
